Hunter Twink Guide (Level 19)

By The N.U. April 19th, 2010 at 10:54 pm

Alright, I thought I go ahead and do this because one I think the WHU needs it and also, the list they do give in my opinion is not fully finished. There are many things they missed and I believe a few things are wrong. Maybe I’m wrong or maybe it’s just a personal play style of mine. Being that I’ve leveled three hunters to 19 and twink out. Two rogues and 1 Lock as well as PVP at many different levels, I think I kind of know a think or two about how to twink a hunter out.

NOTE: I plan on putting up a link to my new Twink Hunter once I’m done leveling him and finish getting all his gear ready.

The first thing, before you even go about twinking is to know your role. At level 19 you have only one battleground, as a hunter you can an one of the best classes to carry the flag. That is where the choice comes, are you going to be carrying the flag or are you going to be defending/killing the other teams flag carrier? You must answer this before you dig down and get your gear, which will cost you some gold and many hours of finishing running instances and crafting.

For the stake to keep it simple, I wont go into Heirloom Items for I’m writing this for the members of the WHU guild and most of them wont have level 80s who can run randoms to get badges to get Heirloom Items in the first place. Most of them are lucky to have level 58 Death Knights to help fund their gold to BiS their hunters. Also for anyone who runs across this guide, this is met for Dwarf Hunters, while most of this applies to no matter what race you go for, Horde or Alliance.

Stats
First off, many hunters shockly I’ve talked to have told me the same thing, agility is better then stamina for PVP. Well I would have to disagree with that. My theory behind this is, your in a battleground ten players on each side. It’s great you can nearly one shot everyone, but can you one shot 5 other players? Nothing is worst then running down the other teams flag carrier, and being one shot yourself. Trust me this has happened to me a few times, so no matter how hard you can hit, does nothing if you can’t live long enough to take the hits. Keep in mind that your only options to heal is sitting and eating, potions (which I believe was nerf to not be so helpful in patch 3.3.3) and First Aid. Sure there are healers, but you are randomly group together and most of the time, healers don’t heal in battlegrounds, yes it’s sad.

You want to go for Hit, no point in hitting hard if you miss all the time. There are very limited items in the game at level 19, that you can ware that has hit. So take ever gear slot that has hit on it, no matter what.

Your two core stats are agility and stamina, they flip depending on what your doing. If your going to run the flag, you would go for stamina over agility. If your going to be running the flag carrier down or just taking people out, then go for agility. However, you want to keep it a 1:1 in your gear choice. What I mean is, you don’t want to go all stamina and forget about agility, no point in being a tank if you hardly deal any damage.

So when choosing gear your stats should look like this:
Dealing Damage/Not running Flag

Hit Rating -> Agility -> Stamina

Running the Flag

Hit Rating -> Stamina -> Agility

You might ask, what about Attack Power and Intellect? Well those are important, but the gear your going for wont have these stats on them or very little and the gear in game that has it, not worth really going for. Yes you can get some gear slots form the random dungeon finder in the form of the Satchel of Goods. However the gear drop is much too random. Also note that it will always drop the best gear level you can ware. If your a cloth user, it will never give you leather, such as if your a leather/mail user, it will give you leather until level 40 to which it will only give you mail.

Below is a full gear list of the best gear you can get to min/max for level 19 for PVP. Keep in mind that some of the gear you wont have right away, some takes time like the Fishing Hat or the Arena Grand Master Trinket. Some gear requires a bit of PVP before you can gain access to it.

Head

Neck

Shoulders

Back

Chest

Wrist

Gloves

Waist

Legs

Feet

Ring

Trinket

Melee

Ranged

Item Notes:

*The only option you have for the gloves slot is the random enchant Scouting Gloves of the Monkey. Can be hard to find, but try to find one with +4 Stamina/+4 Agility. Your other option is Gloves of the Fang. However if you can go for the Scouting Gloves of the Monkey.

**You can also go for Belt of the Fang , which can help you if you need the Stamina if your going to be a flag runner. Otherwise go for the hit.

***For your leg slot, you want to try and get Scouting Trousers of the Monkey with +5 Stamina/+5 Agility. If your unable to, Leggings of the Fang will do with it having +4 Stamina/+9 Agility.

****For a Dwarf Hunter, use the gun. I believe the Dwarf Gun Specialization works out to be more DPS then the Venomstrike. For all other races use the bow.

Enchantments
What is a hunter, getting the best gear in slot he/she can get with out putting some sweet enchantments on them? Sadly twinking isn’t as good with enchantments as it use to be. With the last few patches, alot of the once must have enchantments have been removed to only work at higher levels. For such I will only list the ones that work. While the methods of putting these enchantments on still work (having a higher level character do so in the trade window) the enchantments do not turn on until you reach the level required, which kind of breaks the point of twinking at level 19 in the first place.

Back

Chest

Wrists

Gloves

Legs

  • Medium Armor Kit

Feet

Melee

Ranged

Talents
Now as with all twinking, you need to have the best talents that you can have. This can be a problem, for at level 19 you only have 10 points. One would say put them all into the Beast Master Tree, while you can do a spec that looks like this, your chances of dealing enough damage is as good as the others. Remember in PVP, 90% of the time the other team will not go after your pet. They will target you, so while this might be good to get a big death dealer out there, if you can’t stay alive long enough for your pet to deal the damage.

Survivability

Efficiency

Damage

There are a number of other builds you can go with, personally you should go for Hawk Eye and improved Concussive Shot if your going to run the flag. You can still shoot when caring and being able to hit them 6 yards away then normal and slow them down longer is always a good thing. It’s also good to stop the flag runner if your far away, able to get close to deal damage to them.

Pets
You can very much go with any type of pet you want. Pets don’t start getting Talents Points until Level 21 I believe (I could be wrong). In either case you wont have to worry about the three pet trees. Your choice of pet comes down too stopping your opponent in his tracks, the best way is stun or stare. In this case you want to try to get a spider. Spider’s have Web, which is very good for stopping the flag runner. You might want to set this skill up to go off when you choose other then auto cast.

The other option you could go for, which is I personally go for in level 19 PVP are Ravagers, with their Ravage Skill, which is a stun. Again, you might want to take off auto cast and use it when your ready to stun someone, like the flag carrier.

Conclusion
I hope you found something useful in this guy, twinking is a very expensive process and can cost alot of gold and time. One thing you have to remember is that what is best may not be best for you. You want to find what your play style is. Don’t be a cookie cutter and go word for word what some guide says. That is why they are called guides, to guide you to find what YOUR best in slot gear is, you want to min/max to your best, so keep that in mind. Most of all just have fun.

Happy Hunting :)
