Today I was a tab bit bored when I log into my Hunter. For the most part I went about doing some dailies to make some gold. I just spent it all on getting my epic flying mount, which I’m loving by the way.
Anyways, I thought I dust off my skills as a hunter and the two things that are key to hunters is Jump Shot and Kiting. For those of you who don’t know what I mean by those two terms, Jump shot is very simple, It basically means shooting while you jump. You basically attack a mob and turn and run form it, you then hit the space bar to make your character jump. Right after you do this you want to turn using your mouse to which you then fire off one of your instant shots, which can be Arcane Shot, Serpent Sting, Concussive Shot or Kill Shot.
Now you may ask, why those shot? Why not use Steady Shot or another shot? The reason is those shots I just listed do not require you to stand still, they can be fired while your moving. Generally you want to open with Concussive Shot, this will daze them and slow them down, this gives you some lead way as you will be running form him, your next shot should be Serpent Sting. You want to make sure that you keep this up so he will keep following you, being if your threat drops the mob will path back form you. You then want to use Arcane Shot. I often will shoot off Serpent Sting off even when its only 25% way into the next one. Yes this does use up alot of mana and if your like me you can take a moment to press the W key down to keep running while you move the mouse to click Viper (being I don’t have a keybind for my aspect; I don’t find a need for this). You may also want to drop Frost Trap which will slow the mob down in case he catches up to you, if your use Engineering like me you can have the boots to get some speed on him, but not too much for if you get too far and fall out of sight he will path back (has happened to me before).
And that is basically it, this is where kiting comes into place. Basically Kiting as I understand it, is sending a mob to where you want it. Lets say you want a mob or boss to go form Point A to Point B. You can Jump shot it to the location you want, there are many different ways to do this, everyone has their own style. I prefer to Jump Shot, in face the moment I learned how to do this a few months back I find myself doing it even when I don’t need to be doing it on mobs I normally could just burn down before he reached me.
Now I don’t find myself that elite of a hunter to do this with out my pet, which I generally just have follow me, but I can if I get into trouble instantly have the pet attack so I lose the aggro. As I was saying, I pulled two Elite Bosses in Northrend, one was level level 74, who was deep in a cave in Dragonblight (the Crystal Vice). Funny story here, I was questing, doing quest that gave no rep, just gold, they where level 75 level quest so they where easy, I made my way all the way in side this cave, there was nothing but Worms and being a 51 Beast Master I could tame one (which I did once, they are okay tanking Pets) and I saw this really big one, sadly he could not be tamed, he had the same skin as all the other Frost Worms you see around this zone.
So I shot him and turned and started to run, I pulled him all the way out of the cave and was going to (the plan was anyways) pull him all the way to the tower and see what happened. However I end up downing the guy not far form outside the cave, I say about mid way down the path to where I be in the open to the tower. The reason wasn’t because he cough up to me, grand there was other mobs coming for me, but they path back being my pet nor I attacked them.
Then someone request for a group and once I okay it they started to attack it. At first I thought they thought I need help, to which point I turned and down him (they where around level 74-75 I believe). Once he went down they thanked me for the help, turns out they needed him for a quest and I just saved them a long grind through the cave which was filled with Frost Worms (non-elite). So I was happy to help and wave them good-bye. So I took a snapshot of me standing by his body, and you can see the name and everything. So for those of you wondering, look the name up and you’ll see where he sits at to how far I pulled him before I was force to down him.
The next guy was in Icecrown, basically I was in the Valley of Fallen Heroes doing a daily, I thought I would try to solo one quest that required to down this level 82 elite beast (believe hes 82) which is a daily quest to down him and 3 of his followers. Anyways I thought what the hell, the worst thing that happens is I die. So as I was flying around I saw one of those really big skull looking undead guys. If you’ve been to Icecrown you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Anyways, I said what the hell and started to pull him down form the walk way, down below. I did have a bit of trouble being it was not a clear path, to which point I even fell a bit and took some damage as a result. He still followed me and even caught me a few times. The plan was, to pull him all the way to the Argent Tournament Grounds and let him loose. Something like that should be more planned out and caught on video. The server I’m on I plan on leaving soon anyways and I looked at it as one big bird to all the turds on that server. Sadly I had to down him just down the rocks and a bit into the far back of the Valley.
Reason being I forgot that the Valley of Heroes is full of level 80 mobs, to which I thought there was no way I could really pull him all the way across it, and down the bombing area (forgot the name) to the Argent Tournament Ground, I have to go through 3 areas full of 80s. Maybe if I had someone to clear a path for me I could do it or if I pulled one that was closer, but part of the fun was how far he came. Either way, I thought it was funny as hell and too bad you couldn’t pull one off Northrend, I would so pull one all the way across the waters (using a water walking pot) right into Stormwind. Yeah I know, that is messed up and its a good thing that can’t happen or I totally would do it.
So there you go, two big elite mobs I pulled out of the area they generally are and into another. Grant nothing too shocky or big but taking the fact I haven’t done more with a hunter then login and stare at the screen for a few weeks now, I think it wasn’t too bad given my skill as a hunter and my gear level. I also like to note that if I’m wrong in what kiting is, well that was how it was explain to me some months ago and I have never once used it in raids or anything where kiting is needed. I try to do it in PVP but I’m still not very good at PVP to do such a thing yet.
Happy Hunting
